.....sigh.....HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW.......our impending doom.......

........So around 5 months ago, i started noticing that i was losing hair constantly, and I don't mean just a hair or two, these were like chunks of beautiful hair streaming down my body as i took a shower........and it was only a few months later that i actually noticed that my hair had completely lost its volume, i shuddered to even take a shower......and you know, for a 22 year old girl who's notable feature is her hair, this isn't exactly a spectacular sign.........and then again, you don't realise what you have until you've actually lost it, so, after a lot of soul searching I decided to do something about it, however, before I tell you about what I did about it, lets embark on a journey of how it all possibly began..........

Stress- yes, I may not appear the sort of a person who has her face behind her study book, but I do and during my final examination of Second Year of Med School, I actually did go through a lot of stress which might be a possible aetiological factor..........

Surgeries- no haven't had any so far.......thank god!

A prolonged illness- hmmmmmm........the last time I was seriously ill was when i had a bout of pharyngitis, n I do not think that could apply anyways.........at least in my case

Thyroid hormone imbalance- so like, i obviously wanted to do something about the hair fall, n i went to a popular dermatologist around here and he asked me to get my thyroid level checked........so after enduring the entire brunt of that needle piercing my arm and the suction, I got my test results the next day and they were as normal as could be............

Hair style- a lot of people believe that tying your hair back in a tight fashion could lead to hair fall, and I do tie my hair up in a tight fashion, so it's a possibility.....

n I' ve not had any fungal infections of the scalp or other infections to lead me to my misery........

So, here's what I did about the hair fall..............
I WENT TO A DERMATOLOGIST!........a lot of people have strange ideas about seeing dermatologists for problems like this, but I honestly think I should've done it earlier........coz the hair's improving its stature, my hair's regained its normal volume and I don't feel too bad about taking a shower anymore, n hey, its not like i didn't when I was suffering the "situation" at hand..........

So, my dermatologist tried ruling out the possible factors that could' ve caused this after my thyroid level test results, and I mentioned stress. You know, I absolutely hate it when people don't take me seriously just by judging me based on my personal appearance......and unfortunately I was at the behest of this sort of treatment, YET AGAIN........the moment i mentioned the stress i had during the exam, he smirked and asked me, "Were you stressed before the exam or after it, coz a lot of people stress out after their results".........well, anyways he said I was going through some form of hair loss and I'm kinda embarassed to talk about this but anyways, its termed 'androgenetic alopecia'.......i gasped.............so, he comforted me and told me to keep my cool, have a good meal and start treatment immediately........

I rushed home with my bottle of Minoxidil( in absolute alcohol 40%.....LOL!) and started off the treatment along with a few multi vitamin pills.............a month after, my hair began looking pretty good........the hair fall has reduced to 1-2 strands a day....n I'm relieved...........

...........The next time you notice something like this happening to you, I recommend immediate action...........I for one, do not wanna walk down the aisle someday with no hair on my head............infact, the other day, a friend of mine asked me why I'd started preparing for my exams sooner than required, and i said, "I don't wanna' lose my hair again".........she flipped........but I think it's a totally valid reason...........
